I can't believe i've never noticed my heart before

Mute Math, Montreal, September 5th 2007.

Wow. First when we arrived to Le National, we had to go trough a gay hood, we felt like a minority, the only straight couple holding hands, never thought it could feel uncomfortable, but it did, to feel like a minority, with the urge to shave my head and put on a couple of pounds and hold hands with a similar looking elderly woman hehe. The hood is flamboyant, full of sauna's and lounges and cafe's and bars and clubs and surprisingly karaoke, ugh and extremely kinky sex shops and they sell bongs shaped as penises and there are naked pictures of guys all over the street, amazing.
We arrived to Le National late, the warm up band was already on, so we found a nice place on the left side of the stage where we could sit or stand up and still see the stage, I'm short, I can't see the stage mostly, but this time we found the perfect place. Warm up band was called Pilot Speed, formerly known as Pilate. They impressed me, really good, very into their music, passionate on stage, songs were lifting, half-dreamy, totally mind absorbing, I had never heard of them before and never heard their songs before, I'm sure i would have been more in awe if i had, but everything was new what they did and when they claimed to play their 'new' songs, they were as new to me as their' old' songs, but the sounds was so good and they reminded me of Muse mixed with Radiohead or something like that. Here's few pictures of them:

After the band finished their bassist came right next to us to sell cd's and t-shirts, I decided i wanted to buy their cd so I got to talk to him a bit and my honey as well and he recommended me the cd they had done under the name Pilate, so this is what I have now at home. Also he said that they go by the name Pilot Speed from now on and this was their only gig in Canada, hehe, how cool is that? I feel shitty not having a pen with me, could have asked for him to sign my cd, but I did take this picture of him hehe, damn my camera is so bad in darkness, there is nothing to see really, hes the one with the hat, if you can see the hat.

And then it was time for Mute Math. When they came on stage the crowd was screaming so loud I thought my ears will explode and then it was on, their first intro, their first song played live for me, it gave me shivers down my spine, all I could do was gasp with awe. We got it on my cell phone video as well, I'm sorry for the bad quality though:

Then they rushed straight into "Typical" the crowd was going nuts, the energy these guys have is contagious, it was hard to stay still or focus, it was just so out there. They even did a new song, they hadn't played live before and at some point it got so chaotic on stage, the band was playing drums on anything they could find

the chairs , the floor the projector lights, one drum stick did a flip and flew into the crowd, the singer repeatedly jumped on and off his electric piano, sometimes jumping on it with his hands, standing on his head on the piano for amazingly long time, jumping over the piano, jumping all over the stage equipment, twisting, screaming, it was amazing show, I'm sad I didn't get it all on video though, but i chose to witness it with my own eyes rather than focusing on filming the whole time. At some point the singer interacted with the crowd and got all of us into this trance of singing along the song, screaming out "heee heheee.... hoooho ohohoo" and it went on for a long time, it was such mind blowing trance, I even got some on video:

Then he grabbed some guy from the first row and showed his mike under his nose and got him to sing with him, he was constantly shaking peoples hands in the front row and at some point he had this weird electronic instrument that looked like a violin a bit and he gave it into the audience and had people all touching it and playing it and it came back to him again after making a small circle in the crowd and he said 'thank you' hehe.
During playing "Noticed" the singer stared right at us, right into my eyes for such long time i felt the need to turn away but i couldn't, it's like he's the singer of Mute Math, you can't turn away, stare back, stare! Hehe, and he's singing "...till I noticed YOU!!" deep stare "....YOU"...more staring "...YOU!!!", oh my stop staring man, hehe.
They finished of with insane drumming and threw their drumsticks into the people, but no one was satisfied they were called back my the hundreds of heads screaming together "Mute math, mute math, mute math" it was so powerful and they returned to play one more song, that drove us over the edge.
This was one of the very best gig's I have ever attended in my life, so much energy and show, that my honey even liked even though he knew nothing of this band and just came along with me, the show blew him away as well. And now we're both screaming at each other since our ears are blocked hehe. I'm having the time of my life!
