Cinema du Parc / Surfwise

It was Tuesday, yesterday, so what we did was that we returned to that lovely little cinema and made Tuesdays our traditional 'Cinema du Parc' days. We had set our minds on seeing a docu-fantasia when suddenly on our way to there we changed our mind and decided to go see this documentary called 'Surfwise'.
The documentary takes a look at the life of a legendary surfer Dorian "Doc" Paskowitz and his huge family. Doc abandoned a successful medical practise and all his comforts in life and set on to realize his dream of living as a nomadic surfer. He didn't let anything to get on the way of his idealistic dream-life, nothing. So he lived in a 24 foot camper with his, take this, 9 kids and a wife, travelling across America and surfing anywhere they wanted to. They lived an unbelievable life, Doc's utopia, their own kind of life without education or money or anything a normal American family would have.

I enjoyed this documentary very much. It was entertaining and well made. It gave multiple sides of the whole story, idealizing Doc's choice in life and at the same time condemning it for it's obvious flaws. The kids all had mixed feelings for what their father put them trough and for their father as well. But even though the kids chose normal lives as adults they still had this romantic take on their past, where surfing was all they knew and cared of. I think in a way their fathers choice had made them in ways more successful in their lives as in the end of the film they show and tell of what they are all doing in life and it was pretty impressive to me.
By the end of the movie I felt like surfing and living on a beach, but only for the summer, living like that is just way too insane, but obviously very possible.
Go see 'Surfwise' , it's entertaining, chocking, funny, smart and by all means unique documentary!
